Meetings – 20 February –9 September 2021
The COVID-adjusted 2020 Diamond League season came to a close in Doha with several world-leading times, national records, and career bests.
Sifan Hassan and Mo Farah managed to break the women’s and men’s world record, respectively, in the one-hour run at the Diamond League Brussels meeting on September 5. One week later, Mondo Duplantis set the outdoor world record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 6.15 meters (20.18 feet) in Rome on September 17.
The 2021 Diamond League program is officially set, and all 14 meets are scheduled to run from May 23 to September 9. The new proposed date for the London Diamond League is ten days before the start of the rescheduled Tokyo Olympic Games, meaning the sport’s biggest stars could use the event as part of their final preparations.
The Athletics World Championships were originally scheduled for August 6-15 in Oregon. These have been postponed to July 15-24, 2022 in order to avoid a clash with the rearranged Olympics.
