2020 Summer Olympics - 23 July - 8 Aug 2021
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will feature a record 33 competitions and 339 events held across 42 competition venues.
Japan has been an Olympic land since the Summer Games of 1964, which were the first to be staged in Asia. In 2021, the country will host its fourth Games, if we include the Winter Games of 1972 in Sapporo and of 1998 in Nagano.
The upcoming international multi-sport event is scheduled to take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Originally due to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the event was postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID- 19 pandemic. Despite being rescheduled for 2021, the Games have retained the "Tokyo 2020" name for marketing and branding purposes. This marks the first time that the Olympic Games have been postponed to a later date rather than cancelled altogether. If all goes ahead as scheduled, this will also make it the first ever Olympics to be held in an odd-numbered year.
